Martin Carthy is unsurpassed as a performer of English traditional song & dance music. It is impossible to over-estimate his influence on at least two generations of singers & players.

In the workshop pupils will work by ear on a Morris tune & a song collected from Joseph Taylor. The possibilities of CGCDGA guitar tuning will be discussed & demonstrated.

IN THE EVENING MARTIN CARTHY PERFORMS AT THE LEWES ARMS FOLK CLUB

Provisional Timetable

10.45 Registration & coffee; order lunch (refreshments are not included)
11.00 In preparation learn the Morris tune ‘Lumps of Plum Pudding’ preferably in Martin’s tuning of CGCDGA
12.30 Lunch
13.30 Learn an accompaniment for ‘Creeping Jane’ as sung by Joseph Taylor (but not from his recording).
15.00 Tea/coffee break
15.15 Discussion & demonstration of possibilities in the tuning.
16.45 Finish
