Alistair Anderson has been at the forefront of traditional English music for over 30 years & is unsurpassed as an English concertina player, also playing Northumbrian smallpipes. He has played with The High Level Ranters, Will Atkinson, Richard Thompson, Kate Bush & the Lindsay String Quartet; he is a respected composer, tutor & academic, founding both Folkworks & the University of Newcastle’s traditional music degree course.
The workshop will focus on the rich tradition of Northumberland & the Borders from the late 17th. century to today: one of Britain's most distinctive regional musics with a wide range of dance tunes & some beautiful slower, reflective tunes. Alistair hopes to share musical insights gained through many years playing with wonderful older musicians - Joe Hutton, Will Taylor, Will Atkinson, Billy Pigg.
